Tanzania To Construct $30 Billion Liquefied Natural Gas Plant

Tanzania will begin construction of a $30 billion liquefied natural gas plant in 2022, the east African country's Ministry of Energy said Friday.

The government aims to complete the project in 2028 and the plant will have the capacity to produce 10 million tons of liquefied natural gas a year, said Medard Kalemani, Tanzania's energy minister.

In March, the Tanzanian government said it planned to complete negotiations with a group of international oil companies in September to develop the project. The companies include, Equinor ASA (EQNR.OR), Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN), Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), Ophir Energy and Pavilion Energy.

These international companies will work together with the state-run Tanzania Petroleum Development Corp., the statement said.
