Gazprom made the first supply of Russian gas to Mongolia
Yakutsk, Neftegaz.RU. The 1st small-scale supply of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) was carried out by Gazprom Export, a subsidiary of Gazprom, to a new sales market - to Mongolia.
The batch volume amounted to 36 tons of LNG (about 50 thousand m 3 of natural gas).
Buyer is Mongolian company UB Metan. LNG will be used as gas engine fuel in municipal transport in the capital of Mongolia, Ulan Bator. In 2017, UB Metan built a CNG filling station with a volume of 180 m 3 capable of filling 12 buses with natural gas. Supplied to the station imported liquefied natural gas is stored in the 3 special tank of 60 m3. In 2020, according to customer information, the targeted demand for LNG in Mongolia may reach 8 thousand tons (about 11 million m 3 of natural gas).
As Director General of Gazprom Export E. Burmistrova noted, the use of natural gas in the transport sector is one of the most promising segments of growth in gas consumption. She expressed confidence that the residents of Ulan Bator will rightfully appreciate the environmental benefits of LNG as a motor fuel.
Since 2017, Methane has successfully developed the use of natural gas in the Mongolian market. This is the 1st and only company in the country that imports natural gas and refueling vehicles.
According to CEO of CTEK G. Trofimov, currently the demand for LNG in the Mongolian market is growing rapidly. The new LNG export route created by Gazprom Export and CTEK brings Russian gas to new markets for the first time using railway transportation.
In addition to gas, the countries also cooperate in the supply of oil and oil products. Thanks to long-term contracts concluded in 2014, the share of Rosneft's presence on the Mongolian market increased to 80%. In the framework of SPIEF-2018, Rosneft signed new agreements for the supply of petroleum products to Mongolia in the amount of $ 2.1 billion.
